Ranked in the top 30 Courses in Continental Europe. With its bold drives, courageous approaches and artful greens, it is both an adrenalin rush and a soothing journey through one of Portugal's most inspiring landscapes. The opening holes and the final flourish share a wooded vale in the shadow of the rocky mountains, while others arc and plunge over scented hillsides. Exciting at every turn, this championship test and host to the Portuguese Open, is a master of variety and thrills. This course spreads around the historical heart of the resort and is the perfect complement to The Atlantic Course, ideal for guests who arrive in the late afternoon but who would still like to play a round of golf.

Unfortunately, when booking this Golf Course, it was not clear to me that there was a big difference between the Monastery Course and the Atlantico Course. Played the Monastery course for the first time and as far as we're concerned the last! The Course was really nothing special and actually a disappointment. Rebooking to the Atlantico course was not possible on site, but had to be rebooked via Teetimes. The Buggys were exceptionally expensive, 48.00 Euro each.

Apart from high quality greens the Monastary course is disappointing. Bunkers and the layout are reasonable. Fairways are low quality and the course is short/prety easy. Long walks between some holes are a con. We tried 18 holes and at the reception we got told it was very quiet on this course. From hole 10 (=1) we were waiting on many flights in front of us untill the point we were with 4 flights on the short par 4 14th. We gave up and hit the showers. The showers were'nt clean. Knowing from the past the Championship (Atlantic) Course is such a great joy the Monastary was a very disapointing experience. Better not try Penha Longa (also the Championship course) when its a somewhat rainy day, balls plug in fairways big time. Only pro was the deal from teetimes, 35 euro's for 18 holes (I mean 13) is ok.

A beautiful course!! We were upgraded to the Atlantic 18 hole course and offer buggies at 30 euros as the greens had suffered some kind of disease and were being repaired but still playable. The views were spectacular and people very friendly as always in Portugal.

The Course is very nice, not as impressive as the 18hole Atlantic at Penha Longa but well maintained too. Price pritty high for only 9 holes, I would recommend a buggy (long way between holes), 40 Euro for buggy only, no water included. Booking only with teetimes is cheaper than directly with the club (no reduction for hotel guest eather).

Great course with fantastic staff and a very helpful caddie master..my only slight moan was the price of a buggy. I paid £50 to play and another £50 for a buggy which does feel a bit much as buggy’s are priced at less than half that price in the uk..
